Indoor air quality

Air purifier installation, measured before it is recommended

Whole home filtration and purification, chosen from a week of real readings in your house rather than from a brochure.

Indoor air quality is the most oversold corner of this trade. There is an enormous amount of equipment marketed on fear, sold without anyone ever measuring the air it is supposed to fix, and a homeowner has no way to tell whether it did anything.

We do it the other way around. We place an indoor air quality monitor in your home and let it log real data: particulate, volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide, humidity and temperature. After a week you can see what is actually happening in your house, hour by hour, rather than guessing.

Then the recommendation writes itself. High particulate through cedar season is a filtration and sealing problem. High carbon dioxide is a ventilation problem, and no purifier on earth fixes it. High humidity is a sizing and runtime problem. Those are three completely different jobs, and the only way to tell them apart is to look.

Why it matters

What you get out of it.

We monitor before we quote

An IAQ monitor goes in first and logs your real conditions. You see the same data we do, which means you can judge the recommendation instead of taking it on faith.

Cedar fever, taken seriously

Mountain cedar from December through February makes this one of the worst allergy regions in the country. Sealing the return and filtering properly does far more than any plug in unit sitting in a corner.

Filtration your system can breathe through

Dropping a high MERV filter into a system with a starved return just raises static pressure and kills the blower. We measure pressure first and size the filter cabinet so you get the filtration without strangling the equipment.

We will tell you when to skip it

Plenty of air quality products do very little for the money. If your readings come back fine, we will say so. That happens, and it still beats installing something that solves nothing.

Know the signs

When to make the call.

  • Cedar season is worse indoors than out

If symptoms do not ease when you come inside, your envelope and filtration are letting the outdoor air straight through.

  • Dust returns days after cleaning

Fast resettling dust usually means the return is pulling unfiltered air from an attic or crawlspace rather than from the rooms.

  • The house feels stuffy or stale

That is often carbon dioxide accumulating in a tight house. It is a ventilation problem, and a purifier will not touch it.

  • A musty smell when the system starts

Usually biological growth on a coil or in a drain pan. Worth finding before adding equipment on top of it.

  • Someone in the house has asthma or allergies

Worth measuring rather than guessing. We can tell you what your air is actually doing and let you decide with a doctor what is worth acting on.

No surprises

Exactly what the job includes.

  • Indoor air quality monitor placed and logged, covering particulate, VOCs, carbon dioxide, humidity and temperature
  • A baseline period so the recommendation rests on your house, not on averages
  • Static pressure measured before any filtration change
  • Return air inspected for leakage pulling in attic or crawlspace air
  • Media filter cabinet sized to the system rather than jammed into the existing slot
  • Whole home purification specified only where the readings support it
  • Coil and drain pan inspected for biological growth
  • Fresh air ventilation assessed where carbon dioxide runs high
  • Follow up readings after install, so you can see whether it actually worked

How it goes

The process, start to finish.

  • Place the monitor

We install an IAQ monitor and leave it logging. No sales conversation happens on this visit.

  • Read the data together

We walk through what your house actually did across the week and what each number means.

  • Fix the cause first

Sealing, return corrections and airflow usually come before equipment. They are cheaper and they are what makes the equipment work.

  • Install what the data justifies

Filtration, purification or ventilation, sized to the system and to the readings.

  • Measure again

The monitor stays on afterwards. If the numbers did not move, we have not finished.

Straight answers

Air Purifiers & Air Quality questions

Do whole home air purifiers actually work?

Good filtration and sealing genuinely reduce airborne particulate, and that is measurable. Some add on devices are far less impressive than their marketing, and a few are close to useless. That is precisely why we monitor first: you can see the before and after rather than trusting a claim.

Will this help with cedar fever?

It can reduce how much mountain cedar pollen gets into and stays in your air, which is what the readings show. We will not make medical promises about symptoms, that is between you and your doctor. What we can do is measure the particulate, cut it down, and show you the difference.

What does an indoor air quality monitor measure?

Particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide, humidity and temperature, logged over time. The pattern matters more than any single reading. Particulate spiking every time the system starts, for example, points at the ductwork rather than at the outdoor air.

How much does air purifier installation cost?

A properly sized media filter cabinet is usually a few hundred dollars installed. Whole home purification and ventilation systems run higher, into the low thousands depending on the house. We quote after the monitoring period, because before that we would be guessing.

Can I just put a MERV 13 filter in my existing slot?

Often not without consequences. A thin high MERV filter in a one inch slot restricts airflow badly, raises static pressure, and shortens blower and compressor life. The right answer is usually a deeper cabinet with more surface area. We measure static pressure before changing anything.
