A furnace that has been limping through winters is a safety question as much as a comfort one. Cracked heat exchangers, failing inducer motors and corroded flue pipe do not get better on their own, and a Hill Country cold snap is a bad time to find out.
When it is time to replace, the equipment matters less than most people expect. Sizing, duct static pressure, venting and gas pressure are what determine whether the new furnace runs quietly for twenty years or short cycles itself to death in eight.
We do a load calculation on every replacement. Most homes here have a furnace one or two sizes too large, installed by someone matching whatever was there before. Right-sizing gives you longer run times, more even temperatures and lower bills.

Chronic hot and cold rooms usually mean sizing or distribution problems that replacement is the right moment to solve.
Rust, soot or a cracked heat exchanger
Non-negotiable. A cracked exchanger can put combustion gases into your living space, and we will red tag it.
It cycles on and off constantly
Short cycling is the signature of an oversized furnace. It wears out equipment and never lets the house even out.

How much does furnace replacement cost in Texas?
Most residential gas furnace replacements run between 4,000 and 8,500 dollars installed, depending on capacity, efficiency and how much duct or venting work goes with it. Electric furnaces and air handlers are usually lower. We quote a firm number after the evaluation.
How long does a furnace last?
Fifteen to twenty years for a gas furnace that has been maintained and correctly sized. Ours run less than in colder states, which helps, but Texas humidity is hard on the metal and the annual heat exchanger inspection matters.
Should I replace the AC at the same time?
If the outdoor unit is a similar age, replacing together is usually cheaper than doing it twice and gives you a matched, properly rated system. If your AC is much newer, we will fit the furnace to it rather than push you into equipment you do not need.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the jurisdiction. Inside Boerne and San Antonio city limits, generally yes. In unincorporated Bandera County, often not. We handle the permit where one is required and tell you either way.
What size furnace does my house need?
The only honest answer comes from a load calculation. Rules of thumb based on square footage routinely oversize by 30 percent or more, which is why so many homes short cycle. We run the numbers before quoting.
