Micah with Avodah Comfort Services installed a mini split for us and did outstanding work. He walked me through the options without any upselling, and clearly knew the equipment inside and out. The install itself is clean: lines run neatly, everything sealed properly, and he took the time to make sure I understood how to run the system before he left. He left the work area cleaner than he found it. It's rare to find a contractor who is both this skilled and this pleasant to have around. If you need HVAC work done right the first time, call Avodah Comfort. Highly recommended.

HVAC service in Helotes, TX
The gateway between San Antonio and the Hill Country, and a town where most comfort complaints trace back to builder ductwork rather than the equipment.
Local knowledge
What we know about Helotes homes.
Helotes sits right on our route. Highway 16 runs from Pipe Creek straight past Floore's into Old Town, so we are in and out of the 78023 constantly, and a call from Helotes is a short drive rather than a scheduling problem.
Almost everything built here since the mid nineties came from a production builder, and that shapes the work. The equipment is usually fine. The ductwork is where the money went missing: returns sized for a smaller house, flex run kinked over an attic truss, supply boots strangled behind furniture. The result is a house that never quite catches up on an August afternoon no matter what the thermostat says.
So the first thing we do in Helotes is put a manometer on the system and measure static pressure. That one number usually tells you whether you have an equipment problem worth thousands or a duct problem worth a few hundred, and it takes about ten minutes.

On the ground
Things that come up out here.
Undersized returns are the local epidemic
A single central return sized for a 1,800 square foot house, doing duty on a 2,800 square foot one, is the most common thing we find here. High static pressure kills blower motors and compressors early, and it is fixable without new equipment.
Two story homes on one system
The upstairs running six to ten degrees hotter is not a broken system, it is physics plus distribution. Return corrections, damper balancing or a small ductless head upstairs all cost far less than the second system people expect to be sold.
West facing rear elevations
Plenty of Helotes subdivisions back onto the hills with the living space facing due west. That afternoon solar gain has to be in the load calculation, or the new system will be just as disappointing as the old one.
City permits apply
The City of Helotes requires a mechanical permit for equipment changeouts. We pull it and meet the inspector as part of the job.

Straight answers
HVAC questions from Helotes
My upstairs is way hotter than downstairs. Do I need a second system?
Almost never. In Helotes that pattern is nearly always return air starvation or duct sizing. We measure static pressure first and tell you what is actually causing it. A second system is the most expensive answer to a problem that usually has a cheaper one.
Do you pull permits in Helotes?
Yes. The City of Helotes requires a mechanical permit for equipment changeouts, and we handle the paperwork and the inspection.
Do you cover the older acreage properties west of town?
Yes, out toward Grey Forest, Scenic Oaks and Government Canyon. Those homes often run propane or electric strip heat, and a heat pump usually beats both on operating cost. We will run the comparison.

We absolutely appreciate Micah. He's a man of integrity, very honest, and his desire is to do his job well. We are so thankful that we can call on him anytime we need to. He is very efficient, but also takes his time to make sure that everything is done to the best that he can do. Very thankful for his hard work.
Micah was very helpful. He diagnosed our issue, fixed our AC, and was available when I had questions. It's good to know there's someone local who can help out.
Great service and explanation of service call.
I was very pleased with my service experience with Avodah Comfort. The technician confirmed the appointment and arrived on time. After checking the A/C systems he reviewed the results with me and emailed copies of the reports. Everything was handled in a friendly and professional manner. Highly recommended.
